Many people wonder about the link between colon polyps and colon cancer. However, polyps are something nearly everyone will face. The development of colon polyps are considered a natural part of aging, though the number of them is generally a result of genetics.
Colon polyps are generally detected during screening. This is why screening is such an important part of overall medical care. If polyps do happen to be pre-cancerous, they can be detected and removed before becoming a risk to your health. If you are never screened, you will never know.
Dr. Jeffrey Weber, Chief of Medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center, earned a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also earned a bachelor’s degree. Dr. Weber completed both an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Georgetown Division of the District of Columbia General Hospital in Washington, D.C. He then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
