The Hope Murals Project @ Grand Central Terminal – NYC
Thousands of people stopped by while journeying through historic Grand Central Terminal to help the Hope Murals Project honor a different type of journey, one of a cancer diagnosis. The Hope Murals Project, with CancerCare® and the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center of NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, painted a 12-by-20 foot New York Hope Mural based on one artist’s Lilly Oncology On Canvas art submission, “Balancing Act.” In the narrative that accompanies her artwork, the artist writes, “I am cancer-free, but the balancing act never ends. Each CAT scan, twitch of pain or thought can put me out of balance. Could my cancer be back?” Yet, holding her grandson in her arms helps to comfort her. Among the painters at the event were also the top three national winners of the 2014 Lilly Oncology On Canvas Art Competition. The event also featured an exhibition of more than 100 Lilly Oncology On Canvas entries from the 2014 competition.
