Patient Story: Pancreatic Cancer Survivor (Crystal Carpenter) Crystal and Kyle were still in their first year of marriage when she was diagnosed with cancer. Through sickness and health, this life changing event put their wedding vows to the test. Crystal was referred to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's pancreatic disease team for a Whipple procedure with Dr. Lynt B. Johnson. Dr. Johnson took the traditional Whipple procedure, which results in a 10 to 12 inch incision, and made it half-laparoscopic, resulting in a 4 to 5 inch incision. Crystal had a shorter recovery time and hospital stay, which allowed her to get back to life more quickly because of the more laparoscopic approach.
