Message From the Heart: Akemi’s Story Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an inherited condition that leads to high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), or “bad” cholesterol, at an early age. People with FH have a 50% chance of passing the condition on to their children. It is estimated that less than one percent of people with FH (heterozygous and homozygous forms) in most countries are diagnosed. Watch Akemi share her FH Message From the Heart and help her educate families about this genetic condition and the importance of early diagnosis.
