Ingrid Nelson, appendix cancer patient story Ingrid Nelson is an active grandmother of five, so when she began feeling sluggish and fatigued at the age of 60, she wondered whether something was wrong. In October 2008, she was diagnosed with appendix cancer, and doctors soon learned it had metastasized. “Her concern was quality of life,” says Charles Komen Brown, MD, PhD, Surgical Oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). Nelson’s CTCA care team included a gastroenterologist, a surgical oncologist, a naturopathic provider and a dietitian, among other clinicians.
